February Goals

I can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of January, that blows my mind. This month I have been very busy working away and saving money. This week for example, I am working 6 days. It's good for my bank account but it just drains me of all my energy. Even though I've been working lots, I have been keeping up with exercising and eating semi healthy.

I thought I would make some small February goals in order to keep myself accountable this month.

1.  Exercise 5 days a week. Every week. Even if I work lots or am tired or lazy, I must make myself.

2.  Drink 100 oz of water everyday. It gives me energy and prevents me from feeling achy and sluggish.

3. Read a book or my Kobo before bed instead of aimlessly browsing instagram, fb, twitter, and pinterest. I spend way too much time on my phone and reading helps put me to sleep.

4.  Do 5 small random acts of kindness. Some things I have in mind are paying someone's coffee, leaving money at a vending machine, writing notes of encouragement to post, etc.

5.  Leave my house 5-10 minutes earlier each morning. I've gotten into the bad habit of being late to work (my bosses dont care, but I do!). So I will vow to wake up when my alarm goes off and get going earlier.

Im determined to make February a great month. I love focusing on my health and well-being and I feel a lot better about myself when I'm active and eating well. I never weigh myself and I dont really care if I lose weight. However my pants are fitting looser and my body is feeling stronger,  so I am very happy! :)

Happy February (tomorrow) everyone! :)

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am going to share a few things I am thankful for. There are many things in life that are frustrating, annoying, and simply out of our control. Yet we so often let those unfortunate things bring us down. I get it, sometimes life sucks and you don't want to get out of bed. Sometimes a storm hits and you feel buried under a 10 foot pile of snow. But that is life, you just have to get up and move on.

So today, I will appreciate all the little things such as...

1. An intense workout that leaves you feeling that fiery burning feeling in your muscles. Lately, I thrive off of a good burn, I pride myself in pushing past my limits, and sweating makes me feel much more like myself. Last night, Brandon pushed me to hold a leg hover for WAY longer than I thought I could. When the move came up in my workout, I simply exclaimed " I CAN'T DO THAT!". Brandon proved to me that I could and that I really need to change my "I can't" attitude to an "I can" attitude. One of the reasons why I love him so dearly.

2. Enjoying a hot cup of coffee or tea while reading. I have lately become addicted to reading again. All I want to do all day long is read. I'm currently reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. It's similar to the Hunger Games, so I'm sure I will have it done in no time! :)

3. Snow days. I knew that as soon as my parents boarded a plane to Jamaica, that the awful weather would hit and boy was I right. I missed worked yesterday and today because of the 90 km/h winds, snow, and freezing rain. I'm thankful for understanding bosses and time at home to get tasks accomplished.

4. My family. My family is dysfunctional, crazy, and sometimes too much to handle but I really do appreciate all the members of my family. I appreciate my cousin who Facebooks me just to tell me that she's around if I need anything and I'm thankful for my grandma who calls just because she's worried about me

5. Healthy food. Lately, all I am craving is fresh, delicious foods. I made a "green smoothie" the other week and I LOVED it! I have been considering trying an alternative diet such as going dairy or meat free for awhile (only a month or two), just to see how my body reacts. We will see if I follow through with this plan or not.

Accepting my faults.

I have always valued this space as a place where I can document my life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Its a place where I can share and preserve all the moments in my life, whether they be insignificant or life altering.

Today, I am feeling a bit defeated. Im frustrated with my bad temper and my negative attitude. I am easily bothered and I can go from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds. The littlest things drive me insane and my temper can escalate in seconds. Many times, I complain and focus on the negative way too often. Working out and making time to relax and unwind every day definitely helps but I'm sick of my attitude.

Im sick of complaining, nagging, and letting my anger get the best of me. I dont like myself when I'm this person, so I cant imagine why anyone else would want to be associated with me when I'm like that either. Im being open and honest, I'm divulging into the ugly right now. Im not proud of my actions and my attitude. Its time to really change it. Im in charge of my life and how I live it.

Watching... Brandon and I just finished watching Orange is the New Black. Its such a unique and interesting show, cant wait for the second season! Also watching Biggest Loser and Heartland. I need to catch up on New Girl and Hart of Dixie though.

Listening to... I've been loving listening to cbc radio on my way to and from work. Its mostly indie/folk type music and it soothes me!

Loving... TARGET! Its a bit of a problem. But I got the nicest purse there for half off and I also got a sports bra and two regular bras for a crazy price. Now I must refrain from shopping for a long time!

Eating... I've been craving healthy foods. Love making smoothies for breakfast or snack and I add in kale/spinach for an extra boost :)

Reading... I have been really into reading lately I read Sisterhood Everlasting, the follow up to Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants books. Right now I'm reading The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks and I'm going to start Divergent soon too! :)

Looking forward to... finally sending off my application for occupational therapy and continuing to push myself physically. I love how my body is changing!  :)

So far 2014 has been great! I have really committed to my health and fitness this year. Im going to try and go dairy free for a month and see if my acne clears up! :)

What are you currently up to? I hope your 2014 is off to a great start like mine! :)

Lately, there has been an extreme cold snap in Manitoba. With temperatures in the -30 to -50 range with a windchill,  I have been lacking motivation. This morning I could barely drag my butt out of bed and I was grumbling about being back at work full time. I was lucky enough to essentially get 2 weeks off at Christmas from the Research Station and a whole month off from the University. I was spoiled and now I'm finding it hard to get out of bed and work most days. I must admit being in the work force isn't all that its cracked up to be but I have it pretty easy.

I work a government job with good hours (8-4), long breaks, great pay, sweet benefits, and awesome co-workers. My other job is pretty chill too and am lucky to have a great boss and I get to work with Natalie often. I know that one day I will look back on this phase of my life and miss it. Miss the chill atmosphere, the great people, and the benefit of leaving work at work after hours.

So instead of grumbling and moaning about work, I vow to enjoy it and make the most of it over the next several months. Hopefully (cross your fingers!), I will be back in school come August and I know I will be longing for the stress free, chill days I have now.

Life really is all about your attitude! Positivity is contagious, look for the good in every day, every month, every moment.
